Annie seeks to find a sweet spot between still life and figurative themes in her work. Using unconventional materials, she builds maquettes for larger paintings. These artificial beings are built with discarded objects and have apparent skin, ornaments and accessories. In this way, the distinct personalities and relationships of objects are conveyed. By playing with the readability of appendages, craniums, and orifices, as well as a figure/ground relationship, viewers are asked to travel between naming and seeing.
